Earthquakes in London – a new play by Mike Bartlett directed by Rupert Goold

by RedShakespeare on July 28, 2010

See Earthquakes in London at the National Theatre from 29 July 2010. Tickets from £10: www.nationaltheatre.org.uk Join us on facebook: www.facebook.com About the play: An all-pervasive fear of the future and a guilty pleasure in the excesses of the present drive Mike Bartlett’s epic rollercoaster of a play from 1968 to 2525 and back again. Nothing I do means anything certainly and that’s depressing. But also, nothing I do is going to be the end of the world. There’s a comfort in that. Burlesque strip shows, bad dreams, social breakdown, population explosion, worldwide paranoia. A fast and furious metropolitan crash of people, scenes and decades, as three sisters attempt to navigate their dislocated lives and loves, while their dysfunctional father, a brilliant scientist, predicts global catastrophe. It’s Cabaret, we’ve got our heads down and we’re dancing and drinking as fast as we can. The enemy is on its way, but this time it doesn’t have guns and gas it has storms and earthquakes, fire and brimstone. You were the glimmer. At the end of the tunnel. And you went out. World premiere

Dean Martin comes to London! (1983)

by RedShakespeare on July 27, 2010

It seemed for a long time that Dean Martin would never come back to England. But just when you thought Dean wouldn’t show up then finally in 1983 there he was! He not only did a concert at the Apollo Victoria Theater, but he also celebrated his 66th birthday and received a lifetime achievement award from the Variety Club of Great Britain.

Rowan Atkinson’s final performance as Fagin in Oliver! London 18th July 2009

by RedShakespeare on July 27, 2010

Recorded at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. Sir Cameron Mackintosh pays a tribute to Rowan, who is presented with a gift from the cast, he then gives a farewell speech before the audience is covered in glitter and confetti. Funny moment is when Cameron quotes that Rowan’s run has been 8 years, not 8 months :)
